Welcome to the e-book version of The Art of the Negro Spiritual, which traces the rich historical and performance aspects of the Negro Spiritual as developed in art song form.
I've begun working on a discography of spirituals commercially recorded. The document is organized by vocalist, song, and album title. At present, it is not arranged by composer because too many recordings do not identify the composers of the spiritual settings. Those composers that I've identified are indicated in italics.
